There is a car for sale on EBAY that the seller is touting as having original GM of Canada paperwork. Anyone know anything about this and if it is possible to authenticate this? The item is number 4602741333.
Gary,
I haven't checked the ebay listing to see the paperwork that you are refering too but I believe that all GM vehicals imported into Canada had GM of Canada paper work stating what the car originaly was as well as it's options. By brother did this with his 67 SSRS Camaro and it even showed the dealership that sold it.
I wouldn't know of any way to authenticate it other than sending the vin to GM of Canada and getting the info right from the "horses mouth". This in my opinion is the best way as it seems too easy these days to reproduce this kind of paperwork.
Yes, GM Canada has a vintage department and you can order a copy yourself. You can Google for GM vintage or use the link below. Sure wish my cars were originally sold in Canada. Pat G
Gary,
Several NCRS members have full page option sheets which GM of Canada sent out many years ago when you asked them for information on your Corvette. Instead of sending you the information on your car only, they photo copied the page which had your VIN. on it from a list called "Monthly Imported Shipping" which listed 27 or so Corvettes by VIN. number on each page. Each page shows all of the options for every one of the VIN's shown on the page.
GM of Canada (George Zapora, Vintage Desk in Oshawa) has been sending the documentation out in individual letter form for about the last seven years; I have it for my '69 Z/28 that was sold new in Canada.
Called "Engine Coolant Eq." on Order Copy
But I can't believe it was just an extra shot of antifreeze for us poor Canucks; (see Noland's Vol 2, page 437). After all, most of the Canadian-delivered cars went to the large cities in the southern reaches of Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, and them thar parts had warmer winters than Minnesota, N.Dakota and Montana (which didn't get V48). Kinda reminds me of our southern neighbors who show up in July with skis. But V48 does show, on one of Zapora's sheets, as "Engine Coolant -- Increased Protection (Antifreeze).
I believe it had to do with Canadian Warranty Booklet (French & English ?) as well as the antifreeze and other particulars for trans-border shipping.
The early '67 Canadian-delivered Corvettes did not show this option, It seems to have disappeared as an option on the lists after 1970. It wasn't just Corvettes, but other Canadian-delivered GM products as well.
Wayne,
Nice job finding this one......that GM of Canada information is worth it's weight in Gold.....as in Canadian Junior World Champions......What all of our U.S. NCRS member friends wouldn't give to obtain this information for U.S. delivered Corvettes.
