oops - re-threading and broke through

    Guys

I just re-taped my thermostat intake bolts (had to tap out the old broken ones). Guess what..... Yup, I broke through and the threads are now exposed to the antifreeze.

Can I permatex the threads and still use this manifold or is it toast? Its all original and not restored so whatever I can do to keep it running would be ideal.

    Ideas?

p.s. Joe - yup, you guessed it.....once you told me the thread sizes, I could not wait to try it out.

Wow. Ok no need for another scotch right now. I was nervous.

What is thread tap? Some special bolt or sealant?

          Hi Pete

It's thread TAPE.....Kinda like whats used on gas pipes in your house. Go to the auto parts store. They have it there. Just run it around the threads a few times then screw in the bolts. Or you can use a tube of Blue Permatex (water type)..Just cover the threads with it and screw in the bolts. Either way will work.

          Good luck .....John

Also Loctite and Permatex have products that are teflon paste pipe sealant. They work very well for those of us that have problems with figuring out which way to wrap the teflon tape.

My intake water neck holes are through holes as well. I just used some RTV and have not had an issue. One of my carb stud holes is also a through hole. For that I used some teflon paste. No problems.
