    C2 half shaft damage

    Hi Guys
I need a little help. My half shaft u-joint broke and the shaft beat up the fiberglass jack storage compartment and broke off the corner. What can I use to fix it. I picked up bondo fiberglass resin and a fiberglass hair matt. Is there a gray resin or something I can add to the resin to make it gray? I need to use a mold or some type of backing inside the storage compartment to reform the missing corner. How can I stop the mold or backing from sticking to the fiberglass and resin?

    Thank for the help
    Tony

This has happened before to others. Another repair method is to purchase the corner area from a donor body and replacing the damaged corner moulding in the replacement piece.

      Tony,

You can add dye or pigment to natural color fiberglass resin to make it any color you want. One place to purchase from is Tap Plastics: http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=50&

I repaired my spare tire tub using a mixture of black and gray dyes to match the GM color of the tub and the repair is virtiually undetectable.

Tony, you can make the mold by using plaster of paris poured in the corner of the other storage compartment. There are several high priced mold separating compounds available but I found that a light coating of Crisco works just as well. Use the Crisco when making your mold and when doing the repairs.
