    Whatever Happened to Gentile?

Years ago, there used to be a restoration parts manufacturer by the name of "Gentile". I believe they were located in the Ohio or Indiana area. Their most famous product was their "heavy duty" 63-79 differential cover. This was a particularly stout piece that is critically needed by folks who insist on working on their Corvette rear suspensions, but don't read the service manual or otherwise lack the requisite knowledge and experience to do it right. Their part was "emblazoned" with their name cast right into it in a very prominent sort of way.

Gentile's other "famous" product was their "cheesecake calendar" which adorned many shops and garages when these things were being produced (and, may still even though the pages are long out-of-date).

I recall that on my first trip to Carlisle in about 1989, Gentile was there and still in business. The "head guy" (presumably Gentile) was an absolutely enormous individual that spent a lot of time sitting or moving around in golf carts.

I have not heard of them in years. Are they still around or does anyone know what happened to them?

    Re: Whatever Happened to Gentile?

I purchased a rear end cover from them back in about 1999, as even though I knew the proper procedure, a previous owner of Dad's 72 didn't and broke the cover.
That's the last I heard of them, and if I recall correctly, he was getting out of the business.

      Joe,
You have aroused my curiousity: What is this procedure you speak of pertaining to the rear cover? Might be good to know in case I ever need to remove mine someday.
      Thanks,
      Kurt

        Kurt-----

The key thing is that the spring must be de-arched before the spring retainer bolts are tightened. The overall procedure has been discussed here on numerous occasions and should be well-covered in the archives.

I asked some vendors recently about them and "Big Bud". They are out of business
