    68-72 Astro-ventilation

Where do I find a basic explanation of when the rear vents are to open/close on a 71 convertible? Thanks!

When you move the black, round "vent" levers on the center console...
    That's all.

In a car with AC, they do not exist and therefore don't move.

      Patrick,

The round knob levers operate the footwell sidekick ventilation on non AC equipped cars.

The left black thumbwheel on the console operates the vacumn to open and close the rear deck ventilation system.

I think that an explanation of this system was shown in an issue of Corvette News for the calendar year '70,'71.

        Mike,
Are you referring to the vacuum operated "flap" up high in the luggage compartment that is part of the Astro Ventilation system. ???

Yes, Dave, that's the animal I'm thinking of--what position/s of the thumbwheel cause that to open/close?

            Mike,
I should know that having PV'd two Astro Ventilation cars but the memory is not what it used to be. According to the 68-72 Operations Manual, page 39 it is as follows. "Whenever the heater temperature control is moved toward the "hot" position, the rear deck air exhaust doors close to retain the heated air in the vehicle." "1971 and 1972 air conditioner equiped convertibles do not have operational rear air vents as they are sealed at the factory."
            That says it all.
