up until today it was my opinion that restoring a c-1 hardtop was the leader of the pack. no more. try removing a set of stock headers from a LT5 engine while its still in the ZR1 engine bay. mike

Re: most detestible corvette repair job
Mike-----
There are LOTS of service operations on a C4, ZR1 or otherwise, that make work on earlier cars seem like child's play. The C4 Corvette is the most complicated and "content-rich" Corvette ever built, before or since. It will likely be the "high water" mark in Corvette complexity for all time, too; I don't think that we'll ever see another Corvette like it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: most detestible corvette repair job-ROFL
Years ago, I made a comment on another Corvette group that the LT5 was nothing more than the Lotus 907 engine finished, i.e., both banks of cylinders.
Well, I got back tons of flack, how it was all redesigned, etc. But I had to change the distributor in a 907 and guess where it is? Right under the intake.
They were partially right, the 907 was 2 liter slant four and its original V8 config would have been 4 - 4.5 liter max. So they redesigned by making it BIGGER, to 5.7 liter, because the original wouldn't stretch past 4.5L.
Using Lotus to design a Chevy was just asking for trouble. It is amazing the thing didn't need the chassis replaced every 50,000 miles. Believe it or not, the chassis was a normal maintenance item on older Loti.
I own a Lotus. I'd have to think long and hard about owning a ZR1. Interesting to have, fun to drive, %$#&%# to maintain.- Top
