    FL Regional Meet Question Non-Tech

I expect to be in Orlando for part of the time the meet is scheduled. I won't be having a car judged, but would like to spend some time at the meet and meet some people and see some cars. Do I need to register, or can members attend as visitors? I have not been able to attend any meet as of yet but this seems like the timing can work for me. Can anyone provide me with some information on how it all works?

    Thank you,

    George

Old Town is a public place

You can certainly walk in for free and look at the cars and chat with people and go to the swap meet. If you want to participare in the talks and judging, you need to register.

Mark is correct, but I take the position that if enough people did this, there would NOT be a meet. There are expenses to meet and the membership should register if attending to help support these expenses.

Are they doing one day visitor passes at Old Town? If so, what is the cost?

This is a great concept, however, an expensive one. $45 to register for the one day that many show up (Saturday) is a bit high as car shows go. In fact, all the prices are high, but then, that is because they have no way to cash in on walk-ins.

I think if they had a way to do walk-ins, they could hit everyone for $5 a head and make out much better than $45 registration and the $100-$150 swap spaces.

A trip to Sumter County fairgrounds on the first Sunday of each month would bare that out.

            $45.

Or get the 4 day pass - $45.

              Meets are Expensive to hold

As Wayne points out meets are very expensive to put on and if it weren't for the attendee registrations there wouldn't be any meets. NCRS implemented a 1 day only priviledge and charge for NCRS members after the Galveston 2001 Convention. NCRS members can only do the walk in charge for 1 day to see the Corvettes. NCRS members can particpate in any of the meets activities if they are registered for the event. JMTCW, Gary....

Re: Meets are Expensive to hold

Which begs the question that Roy Braatz always asks, why no swap meets? Yes, FL Reg has one, but few do, and while I love the idea of a swap I can attend free, it is entirely the wrong way to do it.

To sell, it costs a fortune. Granted many will say that Bloomington, Hershey, and Carlisle are higher, but Bloomington is just plain gouging and Hershey and Carlisle have been sold out for years.

There are too many swap meets around the country that hit people up for $25 to $50 a space, depending on size, but FL Reg NCRS hits you for $95 for the small one and $135 for the big one if you preregister ($115 and $155 day of event).

I tell you best thing you can do,Contact the judging chairman of the meet and request you become an OJ for the day, Get there earley, leave late do what ever is asked of you. Your going to meet great people, see alot of cars from the perspective of a Judge. Youll get to spend the day with some really knowlegeable people and learn more in one day then you ever thought possible.

I looked foward to going to this meet for years and every year something different come up at work making it imposible to attend.

This fall I was lucky enough to be allowed to be an OJ at the run for the ribbons in P.A. I had the greatest day learned alot met great people and fealt I was giving something back to The NCRS I highley recomend it to every one even if you have no plans for ever becoming a judge or having your car judged.

This coming car season I plan on attending every meet local to me with my 62 displayed in the sportsman class and voulenteering as an OJ

Cant say it enough to every one Get invoulved at these meets

They never have and there is nothing listed on the registration form. Old Town is public and people come and go to all the stores inside the meet. It is hard to fence off the area when people have stores inside.

At most meets, you do not even have to notify the judging chair in advance to become an OJ. Of course, you do need to be an NCRS member and register for the meet, then announce your plans there.

Thank you to all who responded. I think the OJ idea sounds like a great way to meet people, learn about the cars, and enjoy the meet. I will see you there.
