I'd like to track the history of my 1968 corvette back to the dealership that sold it including all the previous owners. How do I begin? Is the Department of Motor Vehicles a source for any of this information? What happens when it changes states? Do other states keep a track of this information and if so, is it public? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Previous Owner Search
You can try the state web pages to see if motor vehicle dept. is listed. You will have to ask for a title search in the state you know about and then hope for the best. some states only keep stuff 5 years. You might get lucky, if hit in one state might lead to another state. Then you start in that state. There are some old articles in the Restorer that list the states addresses for mail and the cost, time limit. A search might get the article. Good Luck- Top

Re: Previous Owner Search
What states keep varies greatly. Iowa keeps at least to the fifties, while others don't keep at all. I have also run into confidentiality laws where what I received was edited. Search the archives for at least one maybe two articles on doing title searches. Don H.- Top
