New 78 Pace Car

The Chevy dealer in a little town I used to live in has a 78 pace car that he has never sold. Last time I looked it had 28 miles on it. It has never had the decals installed, and has rarely left the show room. Is this car of any particular value? I believe it is an L-82 4-speed. Probably has all the other whistles and bells as well.

It sounds like a time capsule. What's the deal, problem moving inventory or just thought he'd keep it? Has it been maintained or just sitting? As always, prices are subjective, but checking a quick reference guide a trailer queen 1978 Pace Car with an L82 is priced at about $27,000. Looking at the Corvette Black Book it stickered for $13,653.21 (plus) in 1978 as well as an additional $525 for the L82 option.

If you have a copy of the Corvette Black Book then check out the list of options that were included with the 1978 Pace Car "package". The L82 was not included in the listing as a standard "package" option, so I'd be sure to check out all the options this one came equipped with. I guess it's your call, Ed. TBarr #24014

There seems to be no shortage of these low mile / no mile Pace cars around, they turn up for sale often enough and buyers are virtually able to sit back and wait for the right price, Please , all of you Pace Car owners , It is just the way it is as Chevrolet made quite a few of these RARE cars.

Ed, Sounds like a neat car to check out. One sold at the Barrett Jackson car auction here in Scottsdale in January. It had 8 miles ont it. I think it went for $22.5K. The problem with the low mile pace cars is there are quite a few of them out there. I have seen mabey 6 or 7 in the last year. Eric #3,182

I know where there are three new Pace Cars still on show room floors (flat tires and all). Each dealer is asking $100,000 for each. They are nuts and clearly do not want to sell.
