Since purchasing my car nearly a year ago. I have learned more that I ever thought I could about Corvettes, 66 in particular. I would like some of you eagle eye experts to point out all the questionable stuff you see. That way I can see if I real have learned anything. Thanks for playing. Bill#44207

Re: Real or Fake?
I know very little about mid Years, but "mostly original non-restored" got my attention. I wish I had a 40 year old, non-restored car that had paint, chrome and an interior that looked that shiny and new.
I did notice that the glove box interior appears that it may be non-restored.
Do I get points if I mention the bar code sticker on the alternator.

"Mostly," "original," and "non-restored"...all pretty subjective terms.
Does it come with run flats since there is no spare?Rick Weltzin- Top

Re: Real or Fake?
I can point out the obvious incorrect items..
wheels
tires
fiberglass rear spring
u-bolt on the halfshaft to rear trunion indicate original small block car
shocks
cad plated sway bars
incorrect replacment radiator
butt ugly broach marks
cool "mr gasket" oil filler cap
pep boys alternator
even a "63" guy can detect this stuff.

Re: Real or Fake?
1. Wrong rear end (sb)
2. Wrong rear sway bar attachment points on trailing arm
3. Storage board changed
4. VIN stamp looks wrong -
- 6 and 0 too rounded, most pads I have photos of have more elongated numbers like the 0s in the engine stamping. Or I have a lot of restamped photos.
5. Aftermarket front and rear sway bars and brackets
6. Aftermarket rear spring
Granted all of these could have been changed.- Top

Re: Real or Fake?
At a glance: wrong wheels and tires (awful on that car IMO), right headlight doesn't appear to fit surround, hood either misaligned or doesn't fit surround, fiberglass rear spring makes ride height look wrong, or maybe just exagerates wrong tires, rear yokes??, wrong fuel line, parts house alternator, broach marks look like done with Sears finest belt sander, car has current state of the art exagerated overspray on intake.- Top

I would definatley suggest they coorect that copper gas line that appears so close to the fan blade- Top

Re: Real or Fake?
ok, i haven't read the other reponses yet so forgive me if I'm just repeating the same answers plus I have a '65SB so don't pretend to know much about '66 BB cars but:
wrong wheels and tire. In fact, to me the rally wheels look even wider than the '67's so are they '68 or up rally's?
completely wrong fuel filter/ and the fuel line is wrong plus to me it looks like it's actually hitting the fanblades unless it's just the camera angle
fiberglass rear spring os wrong
are those SB yokes on the half shafts?
missing spare tire and tub
a black speaker grill on a blue dash?
paint and chrome look WAY too nice to to original
headlight bucket, hood and door fit is lousy
replacement rear compartment storage cover lid
carpet in the back is two different shades of colors?
what's with the sticker on the alternator? also, i think that's an incorrect alternator
overspray on the sides of the intake is a bit heavy isn't it?
is it me, or are the numbers on the stamp pad just too straight and even?
wrong rear shocks
wrong radiator
you know, that screwy fuel line (copper?) close to the fanblade rings a bell to me. Wasn't this car for sale on eBay a few months ago?- Top

Re: Real or Fake?
I was concerned about that same thing. If that fan comes unglued and nicks that gas line it could start a fire fast. A moderate front end collision might be able to get it too. Better when it is tucked closer to the block as original. Gas line is very rusty looking. I would assume, everything looked about like the gas line at one time or even worse. Just my 2 cents worth. I had a chance to buy an original unrestored BB 66 convert about 13 years ago for around $15,000. It was nice but was missing the original engine which was replaced with a SB. It was very original otherwise. I was heavy into another project then so I passed. It sold so fast. I was one of the first to come across it. Oh well. Later, Terry- Top

Re: Real or Fake?
It isn't rusty; it's copper. Very common "fix".
I wouldn't worry about the fan hitting, there is lots of room. The fan isn't going to move, unless you are severely hit, and it that is the case, the engine will stop (unless you have the presence of mind to put it in neutral or shove in on the clutch).
Also, soft copper will move as the fan hits it.
Be more concerned that the two rubber connections are where the bends are, so they are more likely to tear and split in regular service, thus leaking all over.
I doubt even then it would burn. I've seen engines with gas pouring all over them that never caught fire. Now an oil rag on a set of headers, you are looking at a torch.- Top
