Correct '54-'74 distributor cap now @ ZIP?

Is this a correct for NCRS judging distribotor cap?

I was under the impression NOBODY was making these until I received an email from ZIP Products. It's product number:M-3709 and states:

"Correct reproduction 1x4 distribution cap. Includes "Delco-Remy" and patent pending on top of cap. Correct material with aluminum contacts as original.

For $59.95, I would sure hope it's correct. And if it is correct that will sure put a dent in e-bay prices for those caps.

have not seen one up-close and personal - but I know several folks who have and they say the FONTS are a little different - so, we will need to see how one does in the actually judging arena

I'm curious as to where they are made. Somehow I don't think you get a USA product. Do you want to put a Mexico, Tiawan or China distributor cap on your NCRS car. ????

I will call ZIP and ask the country / place of manufacture.

Should it matter where it's made if the repro part is made exactly like it should be made?

What if they get everything correct right down to the material, font's, every little thing?

"Do you want to put a Mexico, Taiwan or China [part] on your NCRS car. ????"

Uh, most people already do if they're purchasing current reproduction parts. And, for the 3 miles these cars see each year I'm not sure it will make any difference where the distributor cap is made or how good it works. It may not be the best choice for regular driving but if it judges well I suspect it will be popular. Most will think of "new" and "less expensive" first.

              It's a GM Restoration Part...

GM #1971244, so it's probably made in Mexico or Canada. Here is one for sale on eBay. PT

                  Part # 1971244

It's interesting that part # 1971244 is the same number that GM sold the D-308-R (resistor) cap under until it was discontinued in Sept of 1992.

                    Patrick,
We're all free to do whatever we want. I personally don't want foreign made ignition parts on my Corvettes. The quality is just not there and besides I'm just a Made in USA guy.

Ther currently available PF-141 AC Delco oil filter is made in Mexico, as are many other AC Delco parts.

Dave needs oil filters like he needs a hole in the head.

And yes, I agree with you, Dave. Unless I have some other guarantee as to quality, I'll stick with USA components on the cars, especially for ignition. Too much junk electrical stuff out there.

Just pointing out the likely thought of some owners, even though I knew you would not agree with them.

                          Brian,
I think all Delco parts are foreign made in this day and age and have been for the last 10-15 years. All the old AC Delco items that were made in USA in the 70's or earlier can be bought easily so I would much prefer to use them. When they dry up it's a different story. JMHO

                            Here's a real one (1967 SB)

Couldn't tell from the Zip picture how similar they are. Pardon the dirt, it's cleaned up now.

Dave - I agree. We all knew someone was going to do it one of these days. But, don't forget the original caps had Delco MADE IN USA Remy embossed on the underside of the top of the cap. Someone will be telling us soon if they also reproduced that feature. Hopefully, they missed that so you can readily tell if it's an original or a repop. Pete
