    Air Brushing Lacquer

I have an area on my tachometer housing (1959) that the paint is cracked and peeling. Can this be sanded off repaired with an airbrush using lacquer? If not is there a way to do it without removing it from the car?

    Thanks, Jimmy

Jimmy, When I painting custom Harley davidson motorcycles I had a partner who did air brush illustrations on the tanks of our show bikes. Many were featured at the NYC auto and bike shows. Although he didn't like to use lacquer, (because of the clean up of his equipment) we most often did use lacquer as this predated the urethane systems available today. He finally designated one of his many airbrushes for this type work and we were all happy. I personally have used an airbrush on repairs of small scatches in HD gas tanks and fenders on many occasions. Just use good metal prep practices and the results will turn out excellent.

What do you use to thin the paint without making it too dull. If using laquer and if using urethane. thanks in advance.

        Thinning doesn't dull.
