Wanting to re-chrome my '67 vent windows, I removed the assemblies today, and I would appreciate this board's advice.
1. The rubber weather stripping inside the vent window which seals it when closed (comprising the front and aft "triangle") is perfect - no cracks, no tears, no nuttin'. The vent window seals, turns, works.
Question: To re-chrome the vent window assembly means removing this weather stripping. Will it "lift" out with gentle force? Is it glued in? Is it held in by friction? Or...what?
2. Secondly, if I can indeed remove the weather stripping without doing much damage to it, will it then be suitable for re-install, or will new weather stripping be required? (As an aside, are there suppliers with quality products?)
3. Lastly, the crank-up window guide is a part of the vent assembly, and extends downward from the vent assembly. It contains the "fuzzy" window track insert. The "fuzzies" have bit-the-dust. There is significant 'slop' in the track's ability to keep the roll-up window securely in place.
Question: Can this track - these "fuzzies" - be refurbished? Replaced? If so, I believe there are maybe five rivets holding the "fuzzies" in the steel track.
Thanks for whatever anyone can add.
