    C2 window track

With the door panel removed on a '67 vert, I took out the two nuts holding the window track to the crank-up assembly. At this point, the window itself lifted right up and out.

To re-install, is the window glued in this track somehow? It doesn't appear to have much of anything holding it in.

The track which accepts and carries the lower edge of the window contains what seems like a fairly worn out rubber-like insert, and perhaps some residual evidence of glue...maybe?

Can anyone supply details about what keeps the window secured in its bottom edge track 'holder'?

    Thanks.

    Tom:

The material you are referring to is sold by any of the Corvette parts houses. It is a rubberry cork composite sheet, which must be trimmed after the glass is captured by the mount. Be very careful when reinstalling your glass in the mount. I find that a light coating of soapy water will make installation easier. JUDICIOUS use of a rubber mallet is necessary, too.

Commonly called "glass setting tape" by the vendors.

Sold at most local glass businesses, take a piece of original to match.

The glass is held in solely by the window channel squeezing against the rubber seal on the bottom of the glass. NOTE - the rubber seal that I got from Paragon was waaaay too thin. When I was done, the channel pretty much fell off the glass. So I went to the local auto glass guy who sold me the "real stuff" - thicker and wider. Getting this all together required some pressure and some liquid detergent (or was it K/Y ). I used my WorkMate to squeeze everything together instead of rapping on it with a mallet - yikes!

Please resist the temptation to fill the channel with silicon like most auto glass places do now. It is a BEAR to get the window back out and then get all the goop that remains in the channel back out - the next restorer of your car will thank you.
