numbers on rear clip

I have a chance to pick up a '74 rear body clip that was cut at the rear of the doors. I do not want to chance buying anything stolen and the owner does not have the vin number of the car that it was removed from. Is there a vin somewhere on the rear body that I can have checked by the local PD.

no vin #'s on the rear clip. unlikely to get you in trouble with the law as they can't vin # it either. mike

I would hate to have legal troubles over a part that I don't need but is too good to throw out.
