I am in the process of restoring a 1957 Fuelie. I have heard from several people that some manufacturer makes a neoprene rear seal replacement for the '57 283cuin engine that replaces the old "rope" type seal. I have searched high and low and keep running into a dead end in trying to find this item. Does anyone know of this item really exists and/or where I might find it?

The information should also be in the NCRS archives. I believe Joe Lucia has a post about this seal replacement.

Jim,
Paragon Reproductions have them. I had one put in when I had my engine rebuilt a year and half ago....no leaks. They have a website but can't come up with it right now. Google them and that should get you to the site.

The improved conversion seal is Paragon #4340K, and Fel-Pro also makes one - not sure about the P/N, but it's something like #13241.

Thanks to all who have responded. I ordered the seal yesterday and received it today from GarDen Classic Parts in Tavares, FL 352-253-1957. Since yesterday I have also discovered that Classic Chevy International also has the part.

The part number is BPE-200 for '55-'58 V-8 Chevrolets. The company is GarDen Classic Parts in Tavares, FL, contact Gary Pronesti at 352-253-1957.

Not sure of the manufacturer of the seal as I've already installed in the engine.
