63 convertible. What size is the pitman shaft nut? I'm a little confused, because I disassembled it for rebuild, but now that I'm doing the final torquing of everything on the frame, my largest socket (1_1/4")doesn't fit. If it is 1_5/16", I guess I need to look closer in my socket drawer.
It is 1-5/16". However, I've always found that 1-5/16 seemed a little too big on this nut while 1-1/4 is not big enough. I don't think that a 1-9/32" socket is made. However, the 1-5/16" will work.
Yes, 1 5/16" for all those old GM steering gears. It's not a common size and is usually not part of socket sets in that range, but can be bought separately from Sears, Snap-On, etc for a somewhat dear price.
