    '62 voltage regulator ink markings?

Just got back my voltage regulator from John Pirkle, and it looks a little too nice to actually put on the car! He did a beautiful job on it, but I have a naive question: As shown in the image, there are two translucent red ink marks on the unit, one along the top, and a smaller circular spot on the side. Are these to replicate inspection marks or somesuch? I don't ever recall seeing them before, or reading about them, for that matter......

      Dennis-

Oh, I know, it's a trivial minutiae thing, and I'm sure Mr. Pirkle put them there 'cause they belong there. I just figured there's got to be an interestng story behind the marks, and that someone here knows the story. (Perhaps I should just call John back. Duh......)
As a matter of fact, the VR does NOT have the right date code for my 3/1/62 car, and I'd be happy to trade for a restored legit 002E that DID have the right date code. But I figure that's a long shot too, since there are not going to be a lot of people with a May-July '62-built car who would want to trade for a LATER date coded 002E than they already have, since they've got a 6 month window...... But if someone's out there, I'm all ears.

Rob, I have the drawing somewhere for the regulator and it calls out markings.

OK, I pulled the drawing and there are no notes on paint marks. BUTTTTTT, I now see that on 11-8-65 there was a revision that removed yellow paint!!! the balloon marker is near the " 12 V-N " corner of the regulator. This is on drawing number 1119002 and is a 35 amp regulator.

I see on drawing 1119001 that the same note (same date) is removed but it says "red" paint removed! This is a 30 amp regulator.

Drawing 1119000 has no paint notes or revisions (first used in 55) BUT I see that it was redrawn in 1984 and all previous revisions are gone.

Drawing 1118826 still has red paint called out. This is a 30 amp regulator.

Drawinig 1119234 has black paint still called out. 30 amp regulator

So, per the drawing you have the wrong color.

By the way. I need the same regulator for a November built car.

            Chris
