Re: Well, I've had two for 37 years

    Bill,

Mine is a late June 67 A.O. Smith car(22049) but I don't know if the jack was installed there or at St. Louis. Maybe the explanation of the single vs double hook jack spring is an overstocking matter as discussed above.

I have two complete jack spring assemblies installed in mine, both double hooked. Maybe in late June 67, they were overstocked on the double hook ones at the end of the line, and threw two springs in mine.

Did they use the same jack spring for the 68's?

Re: Well, I've had two for 37 years

      Bill,

That's a GOOD point. Possible the spring/hook was installed at the source of the body and not the line at the Mill. And also possible that Smith plant had quite a quantity of 1st design single hook assy's. I was hoping we'd get some input from original owner cars.

Either way, I'm beginning to think my Nov 65 build 66 single hook may be correct after all. Thanks

Paragon lists the single hook as 1963-E65

and lists the double hook as 1965-82. Guess I answered my own question on the 68 spring.

Gerald I checked my original owner 68 and 70 and they both have the double hook spring.

More likely is that it is either/or and depends

            on what's on hand - '65 derelict (impound lot purchase) #23561 (L79, C60, 4 spd, K66, etc) has a double.

It strikes me that this develops into an

interesting thread for another reason.....in the 1970's information was asked for and gathered from the people who owned the cars...credibility in a large case revolved around the owner's term of ownership.....Bill W's 1966 was a LOCKDOWN cinch as an example because of Original Owner and optional motor & pictures, etc.
In the 2000's, I personally get real uncomfortable when a 35 year old starts preaching to me on what an original 1963 looks like - even candidates for Bowtie need to be observed carefully. It should be noted here, however, that the 1963 ZO-6 convertible as recovered from the barn displayed NO HEATER HOSE logo's but they were on the overflow/return from the tank to the to the radiator. Given the state of the 63-4 JG, you shoud expect that clarification during the next millenium.

                  Loren,

Just as info only, I have several original pieces of 63 heater hose that has a faint, light, almost transparent orange GM square logo on it. Most from very low mileage 63's from 30+ years ago. Also have an NOS piece of 3/4" hose from a truck application that has the same faint logo. It may be possible that the Z06 conv actually has the logo also but not clearly visible?
