    Undercoating

What is the best undercoating for a C2? The factory undercoating seems to be pretty thick. What have you'll had the best luck with?

    Thanks

      Re: Undercoating

The undercoating from Long Island which is used on the tops of the inner fender wells works well, if you want a general undercoating you cam use 3M's professional rubberized undercoating.

Before you undercoat the front fenders if your ever going to use the Corvette and not trailer it ,I sajust you add a sheet of 1/8 rubber, glued on first. That will protect star cracks from rocks hitting the under fender area.
I did this to my 55 and have driven 100,000 miles with none appearing yet.

How much of the underside did you cover with rubber?

Mainly from the headlight to the rear splash panel and 12in wide . Any one going to use ,drive their Corvette should add it before under coating which will help hide what you did. I cant see losing any points worth worrying about even if you have it judged. But I tell you it works and stops the worry of stars appearing in your big dollar paint job.

Not trying to be a pest, but where did you find the thin rubber sheeting?

Would a cut up inner tube work? Seems too thin.

I too have no idea of where to find 1/8" rubber sheeting.

                    Re: Undercoating

I just had a 1/8 sheet, but you could use the old inner tube ,just double it up or to what you feel is OK.
Factory undercoating no, dealer did, so much for as it came from the factory, was a dealer prep.
Imagine each dealer doing the undercoating exactly the same NO!
So if you had more or less who can argue with you.But people will.

Where can you buy the undercoating for the wheelwells? I will need to recoat my front and one rear, perhaps both rear. OH, this would be for a '72.

                      Thanks,

1/8 in rubber sheet can be obtained at a plumbing supply house. They call it rubber gasket material. Be sure to ask about the color. Most of it is red but I think black is available.
