Stripped hole

Hi again

I went to install my sunvisors and discovered one hole is stripped on the windshield frame. Anybody have a fix for that, other than drilling and tapping for the next size up? It's an 8/32 x 1/2" size bolt.

Easy fix is to insert a small piece of soft wire.

I have been successful, with the same problem, by using the plastic type fasteners that is used in sheetrock to hold various items to the wall. They are available at hardware stores and come in various sizes. They hold the screw securely, don't rust, and will not make the hole any worst. The other option is to use a larger diameter screw, but usually the head is larger and doesn't fit in the countersink properly.

If the hole is not completely stripped, you can try putting the screw in the hole and then bump the screwdriver with the heel of your hand. This will close the pulled metal back up if it's not in too bad shape.

My solution is similar to Mike's. I get down to the bare metal and lightly hammer on the screw hole with a large flat punch. This method will sometime close the hole and solve the problem. I would avoid doing anything that makes the hole bigger. Terry
