'65 Upper & Lower Control Arm Hardware Finishes

I need answers related to the correct bolting and hardware finishes for the upper and lower control arms on a 1965 Corvette. Were the bushing retainer bolts, end washers and control arm shafts all painted gloss black as an assembly after they were put together or are these components listed above plated with black phosphate, cad plated or natural finishes? The State of the Art restoration books shows these components being different colors. The judging manual describes them as painted gloss black. What is correct for NCRS judging?

    Thanks,

    James West

    James,

The upper and lower control arms were coated as complete assemblies including the shaft, bushings, bolts and washers. I wouldn't say it was actually gloss black but probably closer to 80%-90% gloss. It definitely didn't show the reflectivity of true gloss, especially that from a spray can as these paints generally contain a minimum amount of color pigment.

I think the different colors that may appear in the "State of the Art" book are a result of lighting on the different angles as I believe the assemblies were painted complete.
