C2:67 Carpet Flap at seat tracks

Is there a pub or article on correctly cutting the carpet flap at the seat tracks on a 67. I know I've seen one someplace, but just can't remember after all that Rollin Rock and pretzels on the couch.

I'm fairly certain its in the AIM.

Basically, its just a U shaped "flap" in the carpet, with the "opening" of that flap facing the doors. This is only done for the front seat mounting bolts. The rear of the seat track simply sits on top of the carpet.

No tract sits directly on the carpet

Look at some examples of originals. The tract does not sit directly on the carpet for a 67. Do not make any cuts until you are sure what needs to be cut and how. Can't get to my car easily right now but if you email me I can send you some pictures later.

I'm sure it does in the REAR. The cuts need to be made in the front only for 67.
If I'm wrong, I apologize; I wouldn't have answered if I wasn't sure, but I've been wrong before!

Another poster sent me these photos of his original '67 factory carpet installation as he was disassembling the car for restoration a year or so ago - the one below shows the flaps for the outboard track, and the one in the link down below shows the flaps cut for the inboard track (and you can see the original Stevens label in the second photo).

Also, many original cars were found to have the rear cut-outs left under the seats.

                John,

I am installing new carpet in my '66. Do you think the front track carpet cuts are similar to the 67?

                      I agree.

Re: No tract sits directly on the carpet

While preparing a 65 and 66 for judging last year I sought the advice of Jerry Bramlett regarding these cuts. He had a set of original 65 carpets and he took some pictures for me. While I no longer have these photos they showed a slot that ran the total track length with a flap at each bolt and, (other than the flap), bore no resemblance to the 67 cuts.
                        Best Regards
                        Jerry

Re: Well maybe I am not so stupid-Thanks John

A simple disagreement does not necessarily indicate the presence of stupidity; your attitude, on the other hand, may leave cause for suspicion

                            Jack -

Here's another photo sent to me by a '65 owner showing the original full-length slot cut for the track found in his car.

65-66 Carpet Cut Different Than 67

                              Thanks, Jerry.

Since I believe the 65-66 frame is different that the 67, I will also assume John's 65 photo above also represents the 66 cut.
