1963 Exhaust Install

Hi,

I'm having some difficulty with the exhaust install on my early '63. The right side went in with out too much trouble; I had to cut about 1/2" off the front of the extension pipe to get the muffler to position properly.

The left side is another story. With seemingly proper installation, my left muffler just touches the inside of the rear tire... not a good thing!

Do you guys have any tricks to deal with this?? Is there an easy way to put a bit more bend in the pipe, so as to move the muffler/extension pipe connection about an inch closer to the center??

so I'll offer this: In the assembly plant(s), it was common to have pry bars handy to reef the pipes here or there and they were used often. The need for them was probably because the pipes were bent out of shape due to being stacked in open wire baskets and getting bent from stacking or forklift damage.

I have no idea what's wrong with the fit of your system. It could be parts not made correctly, damaged parts or incorrect assembly or other. In any case, after you've determined there is no further recourse, I recommend you find a couple of 2 X 4's and bend the thing in the shape you want it.

Joel take the pipe down to the local muffler shop and have them bend it for you. I made good friends with the guys at mine, never bought a system (ex side)yet that fit out the box.Almost everything repo doesnt fit, its has to be made to, Good luck Phil 8063
