Well I had my first scam thrown at me

Got a very complimetary e-mail from a person named "Ratty" wanting to purchase a 68 body I had up for sale and asked if I was firm on the price.

I responded yes and got a comitment to purchase said $400.00 body for the incredible sum of $9,600.00!

I then was instructed that when I recieve this check, I was to post the check to my bank account and then deduct the $400.00 PLUS a generous $100.00 bonus for doing the deal, and then cut a check to the "holding company" for the balance of the $9,600.00

Wow this must be my lucky day! Bet you folks wish you had a deal this good come your way huh?

Of course it's a scam generated out of Nigeria.

After alerting both Yahoo and the authorities of the scam, I sent this wonderful person a very nice return message also offering to sell them some water front property in hell. I'm sure even the overseas jaboney who's banging these proposals out will understand that one.

Beware my Corvette friends.

One of the 60 Minutes type shows had a piece on those types of scams and scammers several months back. It showed people in nice suits getting out of luxury cars in front of nice buidings, going inside to fully staffed professional offices whose sole purpose and business was internet scamming. In some countries it's apparently openly condoned by the governments as a way not only to generate revenue but to stamp on the evil imperialist pig Americans in the process. In some of these countries like Nigeria our government is unable to do much to protect us.

I'll share my "Nigerian Scam" story....I was selling an older honda accord for $2000. I received not one, but four different fake cashier's checks for $4000 each. The scam being that $2000 was for my car, and that I should return, via western union the other $2000 so the buyer could pay the shipping costs. So...I have $8000 in fake cashier's checks in my desk, and of course sold the car locally to a legitimate party. I asked my bank if giving them the fake cashier's checks would help catch the guy, but they just laughed and said keep them. I also found Nigerian Scam on google...Some people have actually been taken with this scam, and wired the excessive funds back to the buyer, only to find they were now responsible for the money and no longer had their car. I think this has been on the discussion board in the past.

Unfortunately I have a few friends that have been taken for thousands of dollars in the same way, what surprised me besides the fact that they did, was that they told me.
I've been fortunately told many times in my life ( if it looks and sound to good ) you know what I mean and can finish it!
Where I've been taken is by E-Bay sellers, nothing over $100.00 but still taken, If a guy say in NY got my $50.00 for a part , I'm I going to NY from Ca. To get it back ? NO (E-Bay for get it!) So I just take my chances , life is life , I haven't lost much compared to the many things and GOOD people that do send the part.
I've been self- imployed most of my life and understand doing business you take a lost now and then. But %99 of people are trustworthy and good so I play the %.
