    Tung-Sol 224 Flashers

I have two different examples of Tung-Sol 224 flashers. Both are non-DOT blue metal cans. One has "made in USA" and all printing is embossed in the can including a patent number. This is the style I'm familiar with. The other is new to me. It says "made in Canada" and "patent pending" with all printing just ink stamped. Would the "made in Canada" version also be acceptable for judging? JG doesn't provide much detail, nor did I find anything in the archives.

    Thanks!

Don - What car is the turn signal flasher being used on? On Corvettes the metal can 224 flashers were typically used on early 1966s and possibly 1965s w/ BU lights. Later '66s and '69 and up used the 224s with the blue plastic cover.

Some tooling was moved to Canada in the 70s so you'll find these parts around that are identical to an older US made part but ink stamped MADE IN CANADA but it's generally clear from dtae coding that these items were manufactured on the 70s. Also, from what I have seen, flashers made in Canada from this old tooling did not have DOT stamped or printed on the part even though it conformed to US DOT specifications. Pete

Thanks Pete. I have a '65 with Z01. I knew the "made in USA" version would be correct for my application. However, the "made in Canada" version was a mystery to me. I'm not sure of the format of the date code. I have quite a few of these, and the USA versions are stamped 635. The Canada versions are stamped 701 or 702.

      Thanks!

Don - 635 should be the 35th week of 1966 (probably not 1976 unless there are holes in the flasher's legs). 701/702 is probably the 1st and 2nd week of 1967 or 1977 (probably 1977 if there are holes in the flasher's legs). Are the Canadian versions dates ink stamped? Pete

Thanks for the info. None of them have holes in the legs, either USA or Canada. The Canada flashers are ink stamped with either the 701 or 702 code.

          Thanks!
