    C2 dash pad removal trick??

I've got the dash on the table and I searched the archives and read where you need to use a thin screw driver and insert the blade into the slot of the little clips holding the pads on. I've done that to a couple of them, they are loose, do I twist them or should they pull out. How far apart do I need to spread the clip apart to get it to release.

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,

The two bars of the clip have to be spread at least 1/8" or more before they will come out. If you use two very small sharpened screw drivers, one at each end of the clip to pry in opposite directions, it will open and the clip will pull out easily.

I found that you can open and close them twice. After that they break. Figure you will need some replacements.

I found the lowest cost replacement clips at Al Knoch. I replaced all of my clips when I reskinned my pads.

take it for what its worth, once you remove the clips plan on replacing all of them with new ones.almost impossible to re-use....

Re: C2 dash pad removal trick??

Scott, I just removed my passenger side pad today on our 64. I also found if you take a knife blade inserted in the clips you can loosen them up that way and then use about 5-6 inch screw driver with about a 1/4-3/8 inch tip pry apart. I then grabbed one side of clip with needlenose and carefully pulled it out. there are three clips down side by radio. I had to take radio and clock out to get to those. Maybe someone else has a better idea but overall it was about an hour or so job. Now I need info on where to get original pads. Any help anyone? I've never use the dye so is it better to get skins, pads already died??thanks Dave
