    long lost GM show car?

Just read this ad on the San Francisco Craigslist: "1956 Corvette s/n E56S002222 California registered with 1956 license plates. Rebuilt correct 265 c.i. V8 motor, 3-speed transmission needs rebuilding. Rebuilt rear end, brakes, master cylinder, new brake lines, cables etc., rebuilt Wonderbar radio. Has all gauges, 85-90% of the original parts, way too many to list. It has a very rare XP700 Corvette front clip. Includes a 1956 Corvette front clip and panels. Serious inquiries only to wayes@sonic.net."
Lost show car or just a lot of custom bodywork?

    Aftermarket XP700 front ends

During the seventies, Corvette Corner (Acme Fabricating) in San Francisco sold many one-piece replacement front ends modeled after the XP700. They called their model the "X-7 Shark".

These made stunningly ugly customs at the time. That particular front end still has a breathtaking effect on depreciation in today's market.

Why would a GM Showcar still have the "Original Front Clip" with it?

        Mike -

'Cuz it's a backyard "custom" with an incredibly ugly hand-laid "XP-700" aftermarket front end on it

I have more intake updates that I can pass along in Orlando.

There is a guy in Orlando area that has a copper '58, I think, that has a nose similar to the XP700 on it. Apparently, he did it a LONG time ago and still takes it to shows.

There are some things I like about it and there are some I don't. The car is customized a bit all over so it kind of all works. You may see it, but he tends to shy away from restoration groups as they are usually too critical of what he did 40 years ago.
