Re: 77 radio delete
Chuck------
There was really no such thing as "radio delete" for the 1977 model year. For that year, and all earlier years, radios were an OPTION. If you didn't order one and didn't pay for one, you didn't get one. However, I know what you're getting at------did cars not equipped with factory radios receive antennas and distributor shielding? The answer is that cars without one of the 3 factory radios offered did not recieve either an antenna or the distributor (or, spark plug) shielding. 1427 Corvettes for 1977 were built without any factory radio. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Bob------
I believe that "UL5" was a CONFIRMATORY code. In other words, it CONFIRMED to the zone office that the fact that a radio was not ordered was what was intended and not just an oversight. However, it did not actually delete the radio since no radio was included with the car as standard equipment. If no radio was ordered and "UL5" not checked off, then, I suppose, the zone office would have contacted the dealer to make sure that no radio was what was desired. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 77 radio delete
I would have to look it up as to how late we got cars without radios but with radio shielding. I do have the 1970 invoices right here so I can do that. The code for radio suppression was 9632BA for 1970 It listed for $19.00 The big block hood on a small block 1970 car was 9800AA and listed for $36.90. I will try to look up the 1977s to see if we got any without radios but with shielding. GL- Top

Re: 77 radio delete
Thanks for info. I have the dealers invoice sheet and yes it is listed as 7YUL5 Radio Not Desired. My car does now have a radio, antenna and distributor shielding. I am thinking of going to factory correct. I will keep my eyes out for a delete plate, probably very hard to find and pricey. Bob Beck you have mail. Thanks again will be hanging around this forum more. Chuck- Top

That's very interesting. I had no idea that things like big block hoods on a small block and radio RF shielding without a radio were ever available. How was it ordered? In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 77 radio delete
Joe we had been ordering stuff like that for years. I have the 1970 Corvette Order Form here and all we did was hand write in the area marked Additional Options or Special Instructions what we wanted. In this case and I was the one to order these cars, I wrote "Plant Delivery" on one line then "Radio Shielding" on the next and "Domed hood like 454 Engine". This car was a 300hp At, P brakes, P steering, White lettered tires, with a black vinyl roof on the auxiliary hardtop and no radio. Color was Corvette Bronze code 62 with code 400 black vinyl trim, and a black soft top. The color was written on the order as Orange, Ontario. On the invoice and window sticker it is called Corvette Bronze. Any other questions please ask. GL- Top

Re: 77 radio delete
Probably but since we had such a good relationship there was no other paperwork involved. We would meet with Joe Pike every year before ordering the Shrine cars and tell him what was going to happen that year as far as color etc. He may have had a way to get stuff done inside the corp with out lots of paperwork but then again maybe not. On some of the orders I would see that my Dad would hand write COPO on them but I forget why and will have to look them up to see what it was for. May have been the color but not sure now. As far as COPO stuff goes, I got a call about taking 2 of the 69 ZL-1 Camaros, 1 with an automatic and 1 with 4 speed. Tried my best to presell them but the price was very high and couldn't. Had to call back and say no. Would have been a neat thing to have the paperwork for now. GL- Top
