Im removing the BB engine on my 67 vette but I could use a little advice. The trans is still attached. I have pulled the radiator. Should I remove the frame in front of the radiator. Is there enough room with out the frame removal. Do I need to ermove the trans? Terry

Re: 67 bb engine removal
Remove your lower pulley and your fuel pump. It will come right out. I installed one yesterday with the trans attached. You do not need to remove the trans but i like to do it that way. It is hard going back in trying to mate the trans to the engine.- Top

Re: 67 bb engine removal
Funny you should ask.......... I just stuck the engine back in my 435 Coupe yesterday after watchin' it occupy an engine stand for over a year, at least partly because Barrett Jackson got me fired up. Anyhow, when I pulled it I left the transmission/bellhousing in the car. Later I pulled the bellhousing and put it back in with the engine.
When I removed the engine I found it necessary to pull the water and fuel pumps, and the lower crank pulley for enough room to leave the radiator/fan shroud in place. Going back in with the bell housing attached to the engine I decided to remove the radiator and core support (the frame you're referring to. I've never done it before with the transmission left in the car and I won't do it that way again. It may've been easier if I'd left the bellhousing in the car, but the extra length made getting the engine down a delicate positioning act between the exhaust manifold studs hittin' the frame brackets for the motor mounts, and getting the transmission snout in the front of the bellhousing and then the throwout bearing.
Since removing the core support/radiator/fan shroud assembly is basically just 6 bolts, unpluggin' the horn wires, and unbolting the relay from the left side, wires intact, I think you'll save yourself a lot of aggravation by gettin' it out. Don't forget to mark all the shims around the core support.- Top

Re: 67 bb engine removal
If you remove the core support I would think that you would need to be very careful not to lean on the fenders or you risk the chance of cracking them. I had no problem installing the 427 in my '66 with the core support and bell housing installed, I did have the fuel pump, lower crank pulley and exhaust manifolds removed.- Top
