About BJ Are we talking money or a Hobby?

Many years ago before the word trailer queen to some people became a different class of owners talking about over spray paint on the engines and so on ' it was just dam good fun driving a Corvette and talking with other owners about maintenance trying to keep them on the road .
Then money and the quality of Corvette that started showing up slowly change NCRS, For good or bad you decide.
We all have our opinion about queens, drivers, or BJ money you name it.
The word I rarely hear any more is the word "HOBBY" may be I'm to simple minded but that's what my cars are to me a HOBBY.
Put a-side the money, awards, name recognition, rarity, who is who and I just Dam enjoy my Corvette which is my hobby.
The few people that know me know I drive the Sh*t out of them, I have a verity of parts to keep it original and on the road. I truly do love driving them and respect others that do what ever they do.
Others do their thing and I'll just do my thing!

Roy, If your ever up my way I'd be happy to let our vetts take a ride together...it's not every day you see a group of C1,2's or 3's together for a cruise. But if and when you do it's a site to behold..and remember

I drive all my cars as well. Do like the look of your mudflaps. I got em on all my cars. Takes us 4 miles of Dirt roads before we hit pavement. When I first drove out the local ranchers looked in horror. I just explained "You can always wash em but nothing like driving 'em."

While my 57 is not an NCRS type car I dive it. That's the reason I have it. This year I plan on driving it to the east coast of Canada. Vettes belong on the roads not under covers.

As I've posted before, I drive my '66 small block on a daily basis. In the last year, I've yet to see another mid-year on the road while I've been...and I live in the perfect climate to drive these cars. Sometimes it does make me wonder how few people do actually drive these cars more than a couple of times a month. I enjoy maintaining the originality of my car, but keeping everything shiny and new looking underneath doesn't concern me anymore. I suppose it all has to do with what condition your car is in and how maintaining it effects the value.

Had my 55 judged in Park City, I drive the sh*t out of it and where do they park me (the only 55 on Cement) driping oil and lost some points.

You would think being in sunny California that people back east think we all drive our cars every day.
No way! They see or hear about BJ and the money factor thing thinking ( gee if I drive it and some thing goes wrong), It"s been many many years that I've seen a C1 on the road and rarely a C2.
I get a good feeling when I'm driving my 55 or 67 and some one else that owns a Corvette comes up to me asking ( are you crazy driving your Corvette , what IF) My replie is always ( are you having fun with your Corvette, and who are you saving it for) and yet the same people are driving a 50 or 60K new car.(Insurance) I have Hagerty which I think covers the price I would get if I was to wreck it .
I now get people driving a new Corvette seeing me driving my 55 Corvette asking me what kind of a car I'm driving.HA!
Even here on this forum I rarely hear people talking about driving their Corvette C1 or C2's, 5 people responded to my post about being a Hobby.
I guess using the word Hobby now means driving a Corvette which in turn would mean a lesser Big $$ Corvette , they would not see any more over spray on the exhaust manifold.
And now I'll get yelled at!!

"5 people responded to my post about being a Hobby. "

Roy, I wouldn't read too much into that.

Even here in rainy Seattle I've taken my '59 out. I keep forgetting to take my camera. I'd like to get a shot from behind the wheel to post on the board.

I see some older Vettes on the road from time to time. The NW chapter of the Solid Axle Corvette Club takes their cars out all the time. Heck, they just completed a Route 66 tour not long ago. Seattle, Chicago, San Diego, and back to Seattle. Amazing!

There are also see lots of Vettes at the vintage drags.

I think many people are enjoying their cars.

Re: About BJ Are we talking money or a Hobby? Gary

I drive the wheels of my cars. Drag racing, road rally's, or any other reason and I'm driving. I drove my '57 about 12k miles last year like every year before. I have my cars because I enjoy driving them. I actually enjoyed the 2500 mile round trip to Bloomington more than the show itself. Hell I even brought the Christmas tree home in the front seat.

I have a small group of like minded friends that enjoy the hobby and could care less about what their car is worth. The group gets smaller and smaller every year.

I grew up with Corvettes and we spent so much time with Corvette people that I was probably around ten years old before I realized that everyone didn't have one. I traveled all around the NE with my father and the CCRI back when driving the cars and good times were all it was about, as thats all there was to the hobby.

Hope the pic of my non original car doesn't cause anyone undue stress.
