UA6 alarm horn - where can I get a new one?

My '70 has the optional UA6 alarm system. The alarm horn, located above the fuel tank, is no longer functional (very rusty). Is there any company making a reproduction, or a source for an original? I checked Corvette Central, and the horn they list, is actually an A-note horn that is for the front. Thanks - Mark

The horn for the alarm is not reproduced as far as I know. Finding an NOS example will be near impossible. If you do find an NOS example, you might be stunned by the price and decide that the horn is not so important, after all.

There are some folks that restore these horns. I think that Dennis Portka, who advertises in the Driveline, is one. It's not inexpensive, though.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I will go with an A-horn until I find it important enough to get the correct one. I thought they made every part for the vette

Does that horn or one like it show up on any other GM model? I guess you can't read the numbers if it's over the gas tank. I have access to many junked horns just need to know a model and I'll take a look.

I recently bought a 72 and when I first tried the alarm all I got was a clicking sound from the horn. However, I was able to get it to work by turning the small screw on the back of the horn (you do have to pull the horn down to get at this screw). The screw apparently adjusts the coil or the contact points inside the horn. My horn definitely doesn't sound like a brand new horn but it does sound pretty loudly although it's a little off key. I plan to either have my horn rebuilt or look for an NOS one later.

The part # from the assy. manual is 1999938. Click the link below to see a pic of it. It is very rusty outside, so any # on it is gone.

Now I know what to look for.
