Re: water in gas tank
Having removed the the filler neck assembly from my 85 to replace the electric fuel pump, your 84 may be similiar although you do not have tuned port injection. Removing the filler neck assembly you may discover that this could of been a source of the leak due to gasket failure. With the filler neck off you can easily clean out the tank of remaining water and examine the damage. It may be to rusty to continue use. Change the fuel filter, but before installing the new one recommend not connecting the new one until you refill the tank with gas and purge the line from the tank to the filter. Not familiar with the TBI system on the 84, but would disconnect the fuel lines and flush the lines starting at the top to flow cleaner/fuel to the filter connection. I don't know much about the injectors, but they may have to replaced if they cannot be cleaned by machine system that cleans injectors of the car. Was the water drain clogged up not allowing water to drain from under the gas lid?- Top
