Can someone point me to a good photo or illustration of the screw that attach the right hand kick panel where it touches the heater cover panel? I purchased a new heater cover with no pre-drilled holes. The Kick panel has two holes but I don't see how the heater cover can screw on to the kick unless there is some sort of retainer installed behind the kick pane. 1960 Wayne

Wayne, You Have Discovered What Is...
...probably the 2 most difficult fastening jobs on a 58/62 Corvette. It would take Houdini 10 minutes a piece. I'd try to fasten a spring nut, or some such thing to the back of the kick panel. Even a piece of duct tape holding the nut might work. I have, on ocassion, been able to make my hand and arm reach back there but it is a gut wrenching experience. Maybe some other poster has the "easy way" to do this. I'd be thankful to read it. Best, Dennis- Top

Re: Wayne, You Have Discovered What Is...
Who is absolutely convinced that GM actually put a screw and retainer in that one hole where the tab from the package tray support slides into the notch in the kickpanel?
I'm not yet convinced that GM had a screw in there--but admit, that's not an area that I've heavily researched. I've owned 30+ solid axles over the years, including several with original carpet--none have ever had a screw in there--and most haven't had any indication of screw and washer (usually the washer wears a circle through the paint over the years in all the other locations).
I'd be really interested in others' input on this!!- Top
