    C2 door window channel question

I found while removing the crank-up window to access the vent window assembly, the crank-up windows are held in place in a channel, and retained in that channel by 'pressure fit' (for lack of a better description).

My interest is replacing the small molding within this retaining channel. (It appears to 'grip' the window.)

As with most everything associated with this wonderful hobbie, nothing is easy....I think.

A short survey of two automobile glass shops and a call to one local Corvette restoration shop, no one - repeat NO ONE - could provide any info on this channel liner.

So, can anyone along this board provide some info?

    I'd appreciate it.

    Tom -

I've gone this route (recent thread on this, plus check the archives). Bottom line is that I went to Paragon, and their replacement liner is actually too thin to hold the window in the channel. So I went to a local auto glass shop and got some liner that was thicker (~1/16") and wider (~1 3/4") and it worked great. The place I went to was National Glass on Park Ave. in Worcester, MA.

Please resist the temptation (and recommendations) to just squirt some silicon in there as an alternative. Having spent hours trying to separate window and channel and then having to pick at the channel for more endless hours trying to get the remainder of the silicon out, I feel that this is NOT a good alternative!!!

Sounds like you might have to call around to some of the older auto glass shops to find that liner. Good Luck!

    Pete

The liner is commonly called "glass setting tape"; glass shop old-timers will recognize that term, as most cars stopped using it in the late 60's when they started bolting glass directly to the sash channels.

I recently redid my coupe windows. Got the Channel rubber from LONG ISLAND CORVETTE. Worked great!!
