    '72 Heater Core Cut-Out Shape?

    Hello,

Is the heater core cut-out on the firewall supposed to be just a big rectangle, or should it be a rectangle with 2 round notches on the inboard side for the heater hoses to pass through? I've seen '75 and '76 models with a rectangle plus heater-hose notches, but my '72 is devoid of the notches. Is this correct, or has someone taken a saw to it?

    Thanks!
    Patricia

At least for non C-60 cars, I believe that there should be the "notches" for the heater core tubes. C-60 applications may be different; I'm not sure.

Forgive me, but what is C-60? Air conditioning? This car IS air conditioned.

Yes, C-60 is the designation for air conditioning in the Chevrolet RPO (regular production option) system. I don't know if the heater core firewall cut-out configuration was the same for C-60 cars as those without C-60. Perhaps, someone with a C-60-equipped early C3 can provide more information.

          Patricia,
I have a '72 with AC. I also have the Blower motor removed on from the firewall. If you are still interested I could take a picture of it and send it to you. My email address is tonersolutions@comcast.net

          Regards,

Heater core was different for A/C vs. non-A/C cars and the firewall cutout changed to accommodate it. That's one of the ways you can tell if a car was originally factory A/C equipped... The C60 section of the AIM should show the dimensional differences for the firewall cut to accommodate the heater core.

Thanks Jack and everyone. It sounds hopeful that it should not have notches. I'll keep my ears open.
