Sidepipe tips rechromed

Great web sight with a wealth of knowledge. My question pertains to
rechroming the tips on a '67 side pipe car. Can I loosen the hangers,
without taking the whole side exhaust off, and use a dremel to break the
three weld spots or do I have to torch heat the area? If so will this
soften the area and discolor the tips? Thanks in advance.

I don't quite understand the "3 weld spots". The tips are typically welded completely around the pipe. It is a piece of cake to remove the pipes completely and then you can work on the tips. I'd then cut them off using a cutting wheel. I believe I've seen new tips for sale, can't remember where....

The welds seem to be tackedin three areas around by the chrome . As I look into the end of the exhaust the tip seems to fit over it. If it's sawed off,
there won't be a piece for the tip to slide on to to weld.

If you remember the vendor that sells the tips please post it as I just discovered that one of my tips rusted thru and the rest of the system is fine.

You might try to purchase a set of tips from the guy in INDIANA that makes new sidepipes. I believe he advertises in the Driveline.

CORVETTE CENTRAL #322114 and LONG ISLAND CORVETTE #33-52D both carry the tips. About $75/pair They weld on.
