I was looking a 59 the other day and when the car was put into drive there was a slight dull sounding clunk. So, while under the car checking numbers I rotated the drive shaft to check the u-joints. Well, the u-joints were tight but there was some play/movement in the differntial before the rear wheels began to turn.
So here's the question - if the drive shaft moves (rotates) somewhere between 1/16 to 1/8 of a revolution before you feel resistance and the rear wheels turn does this indicate excessive pinion/ring gear backlash or an indication of another problem?
