58-62 package tray support and kick panel

This subject seemed to get lost in an earlier post--I'm looking for what you guys have observed. Where the "tab" or "finger" of the tray support slides into the notch in the upper portion of the kick panel, there is a hole in the tray support finger, and a corresponding hole in the kickpanel, but no way to put any kind of retainer there to hold a screw through both, other than to be a contortionist.
Anyone have an original car on which the carpet/kick/panl/dash/package tray has never been out? Is there any evidence of a trim washer having been there? (They'll usually wear a hole through the paint on other locations on the kick panel)
I don't think the factory put one there--please dispute that, with good evidence!
    Thanks!!!

Mike I think I know what you are asking, and no there was no kind of retainer for this screw, but yes there was a trim washer used under the head of this screw. The factory must have used guys with long skinny arms to reach behind the kick and install the sheet metal nut! I just use a palstic drywall anchor now, and just screw into it. My 60 showed no evidence of ever being off the car, and it did have the trim washer under a chrome-plated, countersunk screw just like all the other fasteners in the area.

      Mike and John,
I've got a different question on the same subject. Is this tab or finger, rivited to the tray and bent at a 90 degree angle......Is this piece painted interior color or is it left unpainted?
      Thanks,
      Brad

        Brad,
The tab on both sides was riveted on before priming and painting, so it should show the same color that the tray was painted. The upper bracket that mounts to the kick panel is a different matter, and it should be unpainted.
