    Transmission identification

    Can anyone identify the following 4-speed trans ID #? Tag# 9793329. Other numbers are: 71 P8T11 28B109594 3925660. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Member # 43502

    1969 Muncie Passenger car 4 speed. 28B represents the Baltimore assy plant, I think building the Chevelle in those days.

            P8T11 = Muncie, 1968 model year, December 11 (1967 implied) assembly date.

            28B indicates Pontiac, 1968 model year, Baltimore so the transmission is probably out of a 1968 Pontiac A body rather than a Chevelle. Check the rear extension, as I understand that Pontiac continued to use the rear extension housing (3846429) with a driver side speedometer connection rather than the the passenger side connection (3857584)that Corvettes and other Chevrolet used.

            I don't know that tag number; it would probably take a GTO guy with an assembly manual to look it up.
