    Intake Manifold Question

Preparing to replace the intake manifold on my '62. Assembling the parts I'll need. Awaiting my reskinned Jerry MacNeish manifold. Just bought a Fel-Pro 1204 gasket - the bright blue one with stripes.

How much of this gasket is going to show after it's installed? This engine compartment will not be judged, but I want something that looks mostly right.

If you're after correct configuration, then use the Paragon reproduction gasket set. This is a stock-type, embossed gasket and will seal very well. And, it will look mostly correct (except for the lack of the tiny "GM" embossment on the end seals).

        Re: Intake Manifold Question

        A gree.
I just redid a lot of my motor and I hated the excess blue of the exiting gasket showing so when I got new gaskets I ordered the repro ones from Paragon. Except for the "correct" tabs that stick out in a few places you don't see the gasket unlike the Fel-Pro's which are more of a universal fit and too much shows exposed.
The Paragon repro gaskets fit perfect and they sealed great. I have no leaks what-so-ever and this was the first time I've ever removed and reinstalled an intake so if it sealed with no leaks for me it should be easy for anyone.
BTW, I did NOT use the rubber front and rear gaskets that came as part of the kit, I just used Permatex Ultra-copper RTV and put a nice bead down instead.

If interested, you can see some pics on my website to take a look at how much of the gasket is NOT showing, especially compared to how it was previous

go to the link below, than you can click on the links for both sections of Motor disassembly and than Motor Reassembly. In the disassembly there are a few pics where the blue gasket is very visibleand in those same areas on the reassembly pics the blue is gone because of the Paragon repro gaskets. That should give you an idea of how much is visible with the Fel-Pro's.

        hope this helps
