    Re: What GM needs...lower payroll?

The figure of $68 an hour was quoted by the Steve? Miller, CEO of Delphi, for their manufacturing employees. I would assume that it includes the benefit package including retirement.

      Re: IF you've got guts...

The UAW only gets what management will provide through negotiations. The problem is that the GM Board of directors should be held legally and crimally liable for allowing bad business decisions and illogical concessions to the UAW. The unions are not the problem. Further, why would any Board of Directors continue to provide executives with high pay, bonunses, stock options, and "golden parachutes" to CEOs when they continue to loose money year after year. It almost appears that it doesn't matter if you make a profit or a loss, an executive still gets bonuses and is paid hansomely to leave instead of being fired with full disclosure that he/she did a piss poor job.

            Re: What GM needs...lower payroll?

Everyone always blames the worker. But without the worker, there is no product to sell. The company depends completely on the worker.

Obviously, it doesn't depend on CEOs, VPs, and designers. Look at the poor job they have done the last 10 years and yet GM has managed to sell cars, even if they are going downhill on profit.

              really lousy styling!

Most GM cars now have finally perfected the look of the Ford Taurus - only 20 years too late. Hey, how about the new HHR - missed the Chrysler concept by what - about 8 years? How about that new Camaro - front end looks kinda stupid, like some kid drew it! There was a Camaro concept by a graphic design student with a MUCH better front end.

Dodge and Ford seem to be much better at leading the market, lately GM seems to always be years late and dollars short. I wonder what cars the GM execs drive. Do they actually LOVE cars or are they just a bunch of SUITS in it for the $. I'm sure you can guess my thoughts on that!

                Mark,

Agree about the models you mentioned; however there still seems to be a glimmer of hope on GM's part, for instance the Solstice, which I understand quickly sold out production to the end of the calendar year anyway, despite complaints re: the lack of luggage space, etc.

                  That car was a surprise!

I think they did a really good job on that one! Too bad they don't use the same inspiration on the rest of the car line.

How about a "COPO" Camaro with the LS7 505HP engine with a REASONABLE price tag? Talk about a real giant killer! That one could go head to head with the new top of the line Mustang and come out ahead. How about a COPO 427 option for the GTO - I'd consider buying that one to drive to work.

Wanna make the kids happy? Build a Cobalt with a modification-friendly computer and sell an upgraded supercharger pulley setup through GM parts along with suspension and brake stuff (at a bargain price the aftermarket can't touch) the goal is to get enough of your cars out there that can OUTRUN the competition at the track for a price lower than the competition, next thing the kids will all want to have a Cobalt.

                  I can only hope!
