Re: door/body alignment
You need to check a couple of things first to determine what gives. First, remember that the body fit on this era car sucks to start with. You need to look closely for any evidence previous damage and repair. Most importantly you need to support the car on stands to level and check the frame to make sure that it is correct. Then you can determine what needs to be done. Jack the car so that the body frame mounts in the center box are all the same height. For the time being let the front and rear hang loose. Go to each corner of the frame, front and rear and measure the heights of each. They should be the same on the front and rear respectfully. If they are not, the frame has a twist. Then check the height at the front and rear reference the published frame dimensions. You should be close and you should be able to get it right with a little support to eliminate the sag. If all of these are correct, you can then try to shim the body. To reduce high upper door gap, pull down on the center mounts or shim up on the ends front or rear.- Top
