    2nd Attempt

My intial post drew deafening silence. So, let me ask again in the hopes that those of you who have already gone through this will share your thoughts. I am looking for a correct reproduction maintenance free battery for my 66. I have read many posts in the archives and have learned of these three sources:
Reproduction Battery (Drive line), Antique Auto Battery, and New Castle Battery. I would appreciate any and all feedback regarding price, reliability, and appearance.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

Buy a standard post battery from any retailer, then add a cover that simulates the Delco Tar Top.

Rob -- I bought my reproduction maintenance free battery from antique auto battery in hudson ohio. This is the third battery I have purchased from them. One real tar top for judging, one plastic top for cruising and last the mantenance free one. The maintenance free battery has a plastic top however it looks exactly like the other repros I have purchased from them. Even the caps screw on and off. You will not believe the cranking power this battery has. I have a 66 427/425 car and it spins the motor unbelievably fast. I would recommend it highly. Also as I remember, they are the manufacturer. The other folks actually get their batteries from them. I have had real good luck with their products and they are easy to deal with. Just a word of caution - they are kind of pricey -- but then what isnt anymore.

I believe that New Castle is out of business, and Antique Auto Battery is the only manufacturer. Restoration Battery is a dealer for AAB, but of course the price may be different. Either way, it's the same product.

I recently purchased a maintenance free unit for my 72 after the previous unit's case leaked. It's 1/3 the weight and I love it.

I've seen success with the Optima battery & a repro cover. Saw it at a Carlisle show originaly, I think. Maybe it was Antique Auto Battery?

The new maintenance free repro battery is basically a "rebodied" Optima.
