Are the fasteners that hold the plate on the rear of your waterpump panhead straight slot screws or hex head bolts?

Is the plate flat or are the edges "turned up" stiffners?

Steve; The water pump on my 67/427 Casting #3856284 date J216 (Nov 21 1966) has 3/8 hex head bolts with an E in the center. The back plate has turned up edges. I think this is an original pump but it may have been rebuilt? Bill

I just checked my original unrestored '67 427/435 (36,108 mile) car and it has the panhead screws with the straight slot and all have external tooth washers on them. The back plate has the turned up or rolled edge which is rolled towards the engine. Vin # 1576 Sept 23 build date. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the input. Yours along with an e-mail from Jack Humphrey suggest that they came either way. Jack indicated that the "transistion" from panhead to hexhead occurred during the mid '66 year. Your input indicates it may have been a long transistion...

I have 2 NOS GM casting #3856284 waterpumps with late 1966 casting dates [none for sale]. Both have the slotted pan head screws with the backing plate with edge stiffners
