Need smog pump, bracket, diverter valves for my 72 lt-1. Are these pumps coded? will brackets from other years work? Are the hoses coded? Thanks in advance! Bloomington is right around the corner.

Re: lt-1 smog pump
Mike-----
The 69-74 smog pumps are all the same as far as the ones used in PRODUCTION. These pumps do have a date and model code stamped on the half-moon shaped machined surface of the pump's aluminum body. This pump was used on many other cars besides Corvette and is not rare. Insisting on a proper date will make one harder to find, of course.
The diverter valve is another story entirely. The original valve was GM #7029199 and is VERY difficult to find and VERY expensive when you do. $500 to $1,000 if you find one.
The pump bracket originally used was a GM #3923214. This bracket was used from 1968 through 1977. The 78-79 bracket, GM #14007354 will also work perfectly. In fact, this bracket replaced the 3923214 for SERVICE of 68-77 models. It is very similar in configuration and is 100% functional. The 66-67 small block bracket, GM #3882861, will work, too, but you're very unlikely to run across one of these. The 80-82 bracket will not work. While the pumps are the same as other cars, the brackets are not. The Corvette small block brackets for all years are uniquely Corvette pieces; you won't find them on other cars. ALL are GM-discontinued.
The hoses were special material and coded. Dr. Rebuild has available excellent reproductions of the original hoses for most years. The hoses are the least of your problem. The diverter valve is the greatest of your problems.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: lt-1 smog pump
Mike
If you're looking for show quality date correct parts, I would talk to Bill like Gary suggested. He supplied me with all the smog parts for my 69 L36 which included a pump dated 14 days before my engine build date. I spent over a year looking on ebay at pumps and diverter valves that needed full restoration before I deceided to bite the bullet and buy the kit from Bill. It took a while to realize that Bill's not expensive, the parts are and depending what you need Bill is probably your best bet. Like Joe says, the diverter valve is the killer...it will make everything else look cheap unless the LT1 valve is more common than mine was.

Re: lt-1 smog pump
Mike I recently bought a complete and correct system from Bill Hodel for my '74, LS4, everything was perfect, even the dates on the tower clamps, everyone is right about the diverter valve but Bill will have it, great guy too. Call him at 330-832-0871 or email him at Billhodel@sbcglobal.net and tell him I said hello.
Good luck;
