Corvette Central's Repro Delco Distributor Cap

Anybody seen the new Corvette Central reproduction 59-69 Delco distributor cap? Wondering how it judges.

I had one in my hand in Orlando at Joe Ray Parts. I think it will judge very well. The mold marks inbetween the towers seemed a little deep. I have one on order and will do a side by side comparison when received.

There are subtle differences, the font for the wording "Delco Remy Patent Pending" is lighter on the repro, and the round depresions between the towers is deeper on the repop. It also has some differences on the inside. When judged
there are 15 points for originality and 10 for condition covering Distributor, cap & vaccumm advance. I think it will judge well.

            Brian------

One thing that many folks seem to forget is that all of the originals might not have been exactly the same with respect to every element and "nuance" of detail. These distributor caps were made by the MILLIONS. I'm sure that there were many molds used and I'll bet that every one of those molds had, at least, very slight differences, especially in non-engineering sort of details. Even if someone has looked at, say, 200 caps of the period, I don't think that would represent a sufficient sampling to say that all were the same or that all were of, say, 5 very slightly different configurations.

For parts made on 1 set of tooling, like some unique-to-Corvette pieces, there MAY be a reasonable expectation that all of the parts produced at the same time period would be the same. However, for mass-produced parts with a large number of sets of tooling, that same expectation is not justified.

The most apparent deviation is the round depressions that Brian memtions. I just do not remember ever seeing a OEM cap with that a pronounced indentation

I agree with your comments Joe, I made my observations from looking at 2 known originals with different mold #'s on the insides.
