    remote battery disconnect?

I remember seeing a guy with a '59 that had some kind of remote battery disconnect, operated by a keyfob like you'd use for a remote keyless entry on a newer car. Does anyone know who, if anyone, manufactures or sells something like this?

    thanks

    Matt -

Someone used to peddle those and advertised them in the "Driveline", but I haven't seen that ad for a long time.

      Check with an RV dealer.

Some motor homes have a remote disconnect.

          remote battery disconnect?

          Matt,

Sears used to sell batteries that had a remote key operated anti-theft feature. Everything was inside the battery itself and was operated with a remote fob.

          "How It Works

Developed for Sears by their exclusive manufacturer, Johnson Controls,
Inc., of Milwaukee, Wis., the DieHard Security battery is easily operated by a
remote control, which can easily fit on a key chain. With the simple push of
a button, the vehicle immobilizing system can be armed and disarmed.
Distinctive "chirping" sounds act as the system's status indicator: one chirp
means the system is armed, two chirps indicate it is disarmed."

I have been trying to find a supplier myself for this battery without success. They are not listed on the current Sears website as far as I can find. If you are successful, please let me know. I want one too!

All of them were recalled several years ago and they stopped making them.

              Thanks John,

Do you know why they were recalled?

                Matt,

Here is another alternative to consider.

They retail for $70 but there are some on EBay for $38

                  Re: remote battery disconnect?

David (and everyone else) - thanks. I think you pegged it with the Sears product, that sounds like exactly what I was looking for, but John Hinckley's response has made me rethink what I'm going to do. An under-dash toggle switch or something of that nature is probably my best bet.

                    David -

I don't recall the specifics, but it had to do with failure of the remote shutoff circuitry and subsequent deep-cycle discharge of the battery.
