    My guess is that this was done on the vin tags of 63 64. Those were spot welded on and had a habit of coming off. They probably drilled them and put screws or rivots in to hold them on. I cant see how drilling holes in a vin tag would keep a thief from stealing a car.

    Wayne, thanks for the response but the cars I was making reference to were newer mid-years. As I said I talked with Brian Hay at Pro-Team and he said he has run across this before on some of the cars they have purchased in the past and just figured it was someone needing an area to drill through for an attachment-switch or whatever. Thats another reason I suppose why so many of the members need to find the previous owners to find out why such strange things like this happen to the cars.I appreciate your time and like I said I've seen it done to other cars but just don't really know why but will keep trying to find a logical reason.
