    '54 Cooling problem

Hey Gang, I've got a 1954 that i'm working on. The motor has been rebuilt and there is no water flow through the radiator. I know the most obvious problem would be the water pump which was rebuilt. where could i get a water pump ASAp and is there any other common problems related to no water flow. Thanks Guys. Steven J.

Fastest way to check the waterpump is to warm up the engine with the radiator cap OFF, shut it off, pull the upper hose off, and start the engine. If the pump works, and the thermostat is open, water should pour out in a hurry. Only take a few seconds.

If not, check the thermostat to see it isn't closed.

Another off the wall suggestion is to remove the hoses and be sure the inlet and outlet are not taped shut from the rebuilder, in case you didn't install the hoses.

OK I've told this to so many owners over the years that when they have the engine rebuilt be sure to tell them you have a Corvette engine and not a Car engine.
You must make them realize that the large water plug up front is not to be installed which a CAR engine would have it installed . The Corvette water pump sits lower on the block then a car and that is the reason the plug MUST be remove. You can just remove the water pump only to look inside and see if it is removed and if not you can do it your self. (then you will get water flow) suprises me how many 53 to 54 owners drive their Corvette after a rebuild and think their engine just runs hot.%99 of rebuilders will put the plug in thinking CAR and NOT Corvette.
